A huge part of my work as a Marin REALTOR is helping families get clarity on schools, especially when they’re relocating from out of the area.
In this post, I’m sharing an inside look at Terra Linda High School in San Rafael, California. I recently toured the campus and spent time speaking with staff, and I want to walk you through what families can expect: from academics and pathways to campus life and upcoming facilities. What Students Graduate With at Terra Linda High School
Terra Linda High is part of San Rafael City Schools, which offers Spanish/English dual immersion programs. Students here have the opportunity to graduate with the nationally recognized Seal of Biliteracy, an impressive credential that supports both college applications and future career opportunities.
Last year alone, 420 students enrolled in AP classes that earned them transferable college credits. That’s real savings for families and a strong academic head start for students.
The school also offers several Student Pathways. When students complete a pathway over multiple years, they earn a special diploma designation that highlights industry readiness which is something colleges and employers pay attention to.
Academic & Career Opportunities
One of the things I love about Terra Linda is how hands-on the learning can be.
The school offers ROP medical and education pathways, where students work with real tools, gain practical experience, and build confidence in professional environments. After completing the medical pathway, some students even qualify for paid internships at organizations like Kaiser Permanente.
Terra Linda is also one of the few high schools in Marin that still operates a fully functioning auto shop; a rare and incredibly valuable resource for students interested in technical skills.
And for students passionate about sustainability? The campus is home to the Marin School of Environmental Leadership, a standout program built around project-based learning and environmental innovation.
Campus Life & Facilities
Terra Linda High stands out in Marin for offering two gyms which is something no other public high school in the county can claim. This means better scheduling, more space, and expanded options for PE and student athletes.
A completely new aquatics center is also underway and scheduled to open in 2026. This will be a major upgrade, not just for the student body but for the entire community.
Culturally, Terra Linda has a lively and inclusive campus environment. They celebrate Lunar New Year, Hispanic Heritage Month, and even host a student-run “Fright Fest,” where teens produce 60-second horror films that premiere on campus. It’s fun, creative, and very Terra Linda.
